MB Locums

The Manitoba Locum Tenens Program (MLTP) began as a joint initiative between the Manitoba Health and the University of Manitoba. More recently, on September 1, 2013 as part of the Manitoba Rural Physician Action Plan, Manitoba Health transferred administration of the MLTP to Manitoba’s Office of Rural and Northern Health (ORNH).

The program is mandated to provide Locums to rural and remote medical practices in Manitoba.

The program is designed to provide Locum coverage to rural physicians in practices of four physicians or less. These physicians experience difficulty in scheduling Continuing Medical Education and vacation time as locums are frequently in short supply. Locums are ordinarily allocated between 5 and 28 days.

The program will be based in, and operated through Manitoba’s Office of Rural and Northern Health in Dauphin, Manitoba.

Much of the success of the program will depend on making a good match between community and Locum Tenens. The ORNH shall widely advertise and conduct related publicity, recruitment and information-sharing activities in support of the Program. The program will maintain a web presence that will offer online locum searches, request submissions and assignment management for locums.
