Rural Manitoba Health Mentorship Program (RMHMP)

The Rural Manitoba Health Mentorship Program (RMHMP) is a partnership between the Office of Rural and Northern Health (ORNH) and various rural Manitoba hospitals. This program was established to enable students to learn about the clinical and non-clinical aspects of the health care system in rural Manitoba. Students involved will gain insight into the relations within rural communities and gain valuable medical experience. The health professionals involved will play an instrumental role in the development of tomorrow's practitioners as mentors for the interns.

The Rural Manitoba Health Mentorship Program is designed to allow students to:

  • Gain insight into the practical aspects of the healthcare field
  • Learn about the benefits and limitations of rural medicine
  • Apply their gained knowledge towards making career decisions
  • Develop interpersonal and technical skills
  • Acquire leadership experience through administration of the program

Students gain exposure to health professions as well as network within the rural medical community.  The program offers the student the opportunity to view the other aspects of medicine: non-clinical atmospheres, community clinics, public health awareness, and medical ethics.
